There is no way to guarantee tips. There just isn’t. All you can do is make the rider’s experience as pleasant as possible. I have driven obviously wealthy people who have tipped me ZERO and been tipped by people who appear to be struggling more than I am. Here are some tips for tips (get it?):
- Treat everyone the way the you want to be treated.
- Keep your car clean.
- Greet your passenger by name – this way you won’t pick up the wrong passenger. It happens.
- Ask them if they have a music preference. This is why I like apple music. If they have a preference, I punch in the artist’s name and we’re good.
- Don’t play music that might be offensive. Sadly, this eliminates most of the hip hop we hear on the radio.
- Be presentable – look like you’re at work.
- Open the door for your passengers. Most drivers don’t do this. Just reach back and open the door. It makes a difference.
- Don’t smell like weed or alcohol – seriously.
- I use to keep mints in the car but I don’t think it makes much difference – except for the mess.
- I like to say “Good to meet you” when I drop off. It makes the experience more personal.
