For starters
I live in the SWATs and I usually head north first thing. The best rides are from the north side to the airport. If I am patient enough, I will drive north and turn on my app. Downtown is a good area because folks are headed to the airport or to/from locations not too far from downtown. You can pick up several quick rides this way.
I try to avoid rush hour because you make less money sitting in traffic. I like to drive EARLY (starting at 5a) because you will pick up a lot of airport rides and people coming to/from work WITHOUT THE ATLANTA TRAFFIC. There is some solid advice about this strategy below:
Uber or Lyft?
Easy! Both! Don’t rely on one option. Sometimes, Lyft presents more opportunities for bonuses and sometimes it’s Uber. Do not limit yourself! I drive both but I always base my decision on which platform will make me the most money.
Uber Eats and Lyft Delivery
I don’t do a lot of Uber eats unless it is really slow. I don’t like having to get out of my car to pick up the food and then get back out to (sometimes) climb stairs to deliver some damn donuts. Te good thing about uber eats is that the app will tell you how long the delivery will take and how much you will make. This way, you can make an informed decision. It’s the same with Lyft delivery. I prefer passengers but if it is sloooooow, I keep my options open.
Airport pickups
I have only picked up from the airport a few times. I don’t think it’s worth it to wait 30-45 minutes only to get a ride around the corner to an airport hotel. If I drop off at the airport, I will check the queue to see how many cars are waiting but most of the time it’s simply not worth the wait. That said, getting started early (see above) means fewer drivers in line.
Waiting for riders
Both services provide riders with a waiting period. That’s fine. Sometimes riders will text “I’m on my way!” That’s fine too. However, time is truly money when you are driving. It is disrespectful to expect a driver to wait for an unreasonable amount of time when they could be heading to another ride to make more money. So, as a general rule, once the waiting period is done, I’m out unless
- I’m “way out” somewhere and it is not likely that I will get another ride
- It’s a long/big$$$ ride
TIme is money. Do not let disrespectful riders waste your time and money. Remember, they ordered the ride. They should be ready when you arrive.
